when asked who do they see Jack with...
Two awesome posts by awesome Jaters over at LF, Papper_Doll and franci.

I think I explained in another thread why I pair Jack with Kate, besides obviously being set up as THE couple of the show (I'm yet to see a promo poster where Kate and Sawyer would be shown as central figures, holding hands), I'm drawn to their dynamics, the complexity of their interactions, how they clearly have no idea what to do with their feelings for each other, yet can't help them. I see a connection there on a level much deeper than physical attraction (although this is there too, just go watch the shower scene). Although what is probably crucial to why I like them better together than alone is that they bring out the best in each other. Personal experience taught me that this is what true love should be like, that 'chemistry' is all fine and nice, but if a partner drags you backwards or simply keeps you in the same place it's just not going to last. You'll eventually become disheartened by them, because the initial infatuation will fizzle out and you'll find yourself in the exact same spot you were before you met them. For a couple to want to stay together, they must have an impulse stronger than sexual attraction to want to be around each other. And if you like the person you are when around your partner then you are bound to seek that. You grow and move forward and develop a bond through that growth. That is what I see in Jack and Kate, he makes her realize that it's not herself as a whole that's a 'damaged good', but it's her past choices that were mistakes and that she has a choice in the future. He makes her realize that she's not all
I very much enjoy Jack and Juliet's interactions (much due to the fact Elizabeth Mitchell is such an excellent actress, and she can actually stand up to Foxy's acting, while Evi does get overpowered by it at times, which is where I think the comments about Jack patronizing Kate come from), but I don't see anything romantic there. Perhaps their chemistry can be interpreted as partially sexual, especially on Juliet's side, she's clearly fascinated by Jack (who can blame her) and when he realizes it, he might play it to his advance. But I see more of a power battle there. I simply cannot imagine Jack ever trusting Juliet enough to let her into his heart, which is btw already taken by Kate (if the glass scene didn't prove it, than I don't know what would). He's not one to jump from one woman to another easily, especially if he was hurt.
I don't think Jack still loves Sarah; in fact I'm pretty sure he never really loved her. He convinced himself that he did, because he believed that was the right thing, but I don't think he experienced the profundity of a "soul mates" connection, the one he has for Kate. He didn't want Sarah to leave him, but we've all seen his fight for Boone's life, for instance, and that's not because he loved him.
So I see Kate as the one for Jack, Sawyer or no Sawyer around. She's what he wants and needs to get peace of mind; they complete and compliment each other.

I really, REALLY like Juliet. I think she's an amazing character and I actually wanna see her 'flying' around Jack for a while; but see, besides the 'love thing' (I mean... does anyone really think Jack doesn't love Kate? Well, I’m sure someone does, lol), I just can't get what you guys mean by saying that Juliet is the right one for Jack. I see you think that she's his equal, etc., but we're talking about characters here… not real life. What about the previous two seasons? What about the characters' path and redemption?
I'll try to explain what I mean: the point is that Jack and Kate have been built up to be right for each other. They have been 'the promised couple' since day one. And this is not
See, for me, in a show like Lost, there’s no way a character can be brought in at the beginning of s3 and BANG, it becomes the right one for the main character… especially not after have made the main character falling in love with someone else, and changing because of her. It’s just not right. Jack and Kate have grown together, have changed together, and that's exactly what the whole show is about. Changing, reconciling what should be polar opposites, and seeing that what looks like miles may, in truth, be inches.
Kate is the one for Jack. It was like that since the pilot, and it's never gonna change.

J.I.F!!!
